Dr. Oz says you can maximize your weight loss by making some changes in the time you do certain things. He says you should weigh yourself first thing in the morning. You are the lightest you will be when you first wake up and make sure you take a pee first. You can weigh up to 2 pounds less than any other time of day, so it is the most satisfying time to weigh in.

Second, Dr. Oz suggests you work out in the morning, before you eat breakfast because then you are burning fat instead of what you just ate for breakfast, lunch or dinner. That makes so much sense! Some trainers tell you that you need to have a little energy to help you work out, but if you do, make it something tiny, just to tide you over. You can get used to eating later once you get into the routine. It’s not that hard. And you should not be drinking energy drinks, they are just sugar, which means you have to burn more calories.

Small snacks – about 15 minutes before a meal, you should have an apple or other small high-fiber fruit. When you have this, you will have a tendency to eat fewer calories during that meal.

Also suggested are specific times to eat meals, 7:30 AM, noon and 6:30 PM. These are the times our bodies are naturally the most hungry.

Our naturally occurring levels of melatonin, the hormone that makes us feel sleepy are the highest at 10 PM, which means we should be falling asleep then to maximize our ability to fall asleep. In general, if you miss that time, you start craving the carbs!

He said a lot more, you can see the video here: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/HealthyLiving/video/lose-weight-around-the-clock-13155977

Basic meditation is simple to do, you can google for more exotic techniques. When you feel the urge to eat and you know you shouldn’t be eating, use the few minutes you would have taken to eat to meditate and help your health in so many ways.

Try this to begin. Set a timer for 5 minutes and find a comfortable position to sit in You can also meditate lying down, which is what I prefer. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Pay attention to how it feels to breath in and out, which helps to keep your mind from wandering back to food or any other stress in your life. Do this every time you want to reach for that unnecessary snack!

Also try meditation if you are stuck in the elevator or traffic, you can even do a tiny meditation break while waiting forever for a doctor’s appointment. It kills the time nicely.

Acupuncture has been around for thousands of years, and now it is gaining momentum in the US. It is so helpful for so many health problems, but here’s something you might not know. Acupuncture can help you with weight loss. Your body has specific points to needle which cause appetite suppression and the release of endorphins, naturally occurring hormones which have a calming and relaxing effect that makes it easier to deal with stress, frustration and anxiety that can trigger overeating and bingeing on fattening foods.

Certainly some lifestyle adjustments have to occur at the same time.

An article about this: http://www.acufinder.com/Acupuncture+Information/Detail/The+Acupuncture+Weight+Loss+Solution

You have a much better chance of doing some moderate activity if you get off the couch.

You are not subject to the very bad ads for junk food that get into your head and make you crave junk food.

You can’t be watching TV and snacking if you are not watching TV.

People who watch 2 or more hours of TV per day eat 7% more calories, which is certainly enough for a steady weight gain.

If you are going to be sedentary, dive into a great book instead, it is good for your brain.

I read a good article on Yahoo. It suggests that you need to weigh yourself EVERY DAY. Personally, I hate doing this, especially because it is cold in my house at this time of year, it is winter after all, and I always weigh myself naked. I would hate for my weight to fluctuate because I have on different clothes in the morning. I have to weigh myself in the morning because I always feel the thinnest when I wake up. I wonder if I actually weigh less?

This article says weighing yourself every day is a key to long term weight loss, which means I am going to have to do this in spite of freezing to death while doing it. Maybe I could indulge in setting the thermostat higher, but I like to be cold when I sleep.
