Dieting For The Rest Of Your Life…

written by Nana

So I have been dieting now for about 12 weeks and I am getting near my goal. Of course Thanksgiving didn’t help. I have been trying to stay about 500 calories under what I need to stay even every day. Doing this should allow me to lose a pound per week, well most of the time. So then I have started to think about eating normally again. But what is normal in our culture? Normal eating in our culture means packing the pounds right back on. Our portions are out of control, my husband brings home left over goodies from work meetings, his office is famous for work meetings over a huge lunch and fabulous cookies from the Gingerbread Construction Company. Of course, I can’t help but reach for a fat laden cookie, I can’t resist once it is in the house.

But I digress. I am supposed to be talking about what I am going to do when this diet is over. And the answer  is – not much! Adding back 500 per day is not much more than I eat when dieting. It is less than two pieces of chocolate cake, or one muffin from Dunkin Donuts. Ugh. We have to resign ourselves to watching food intake every day for the rest of our lives.
