Weight Fluctuations And H2O
Sometimes I am very good, I eat only what I am supposed to eat, and nothing else, and then I step on the scale and it registers more weight than the day before. This always comes as a shock, I couldn’t have eaten any less, and in spite of that I weight more! And I weight myself every day at the same time, first thing in the morning, after peeing, to make sure my body is as light as possible. I probably shouldn’t consider this weight my real weight, because then I go downstairs and have a hug cup of coffee and breakfast and I automatically weight more.
But back to why anyone should weight more than expected… I think the culprit is SALT and DEHYDRATION. The last time this happened to me, I had eaten some really salty low fat chips, and on the same day, I had not had much water, which helps flush out the salt and related water retention.
You should drink a lot of water when dieting, and then you should continue to do it. You body prefers to be hydrated, especially when so many prepared foods we eat are swimming in salt. If you have too much salt, and not enough water, your body retains fluids, making your body a bit bloated. But drinking a lot of water has so many other benefits, including preventing kidney stones, and pain which may ultimately come from dehydration, such as headaches.
Your body use water in every one of its chemical reactions, so if you are dehydrated, your body doesn’t function optimally. Sometimes we confuse thirst with hunger, another reason we overeat.
Here’s what I do. I buy the 50 ounce bottles of smart water, although you could use any container filled with a lot of water, and I drink one of these every day, not all at once, I sip it through the day. This actually is not enough, so I try to remember to drink more than this during each day.
